How sensitisation develops

Sensitisation is not an immediate allergic reaction.
It is a gradual immune response that develops over time through repeated exposure.

When the skin comes into contact with certain substances — especially uncured or under-cured gel components — very small molecules can penetrate the skin barrier.
The immune system may begin to recognise these molecules as a threat.

At first, there are no symptoms.

With continued exposure, the immune system becomes increasingly reactive.

Once sensitisation has occurred, even very small amounts of the substance can trigger a reaction.

Why this matters in nail services

In professional nail work:

  • products are handled daily
  • uncured material contact can happen
  • exposure is repeated, not isolated

This makes sensitisation a cumulative risk, not a one-time event.

The important part

Sensitisation:

  • cannot be reversed
  • does not always show warning signs early
  • often appears after months or years, not immediately

This is why prevention matters more than treatment.
